Culture in Motion in the Neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro
Culture
The INDIGO Foundation supported Cinegol – Cultura em Movimento, a cultural and educational initiative led by the French-Brazilian Gol de Letra Foundation, created by Brazilian footballer Raí Souza Vieira de Oliveira. The program targets children and young people from underprivileged neighborhoods in Brazil. Implemented in November and December 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Cinegol aims to facilitate access to culture and promote artistic expression.
The program unfolded around three key highlights:
6–7 November 2025 – Mostra
Organized annually since 2020 by Casa Cajuína, a cultural center open year-round to residents of the Caju neighborhood, the Mostra is one of the major events of its programming. It seeks to democratize access to culture, art, and literature while showcasing artistic production from Black communities in Brazil and from the local area of Caju. In 2025, the Mostra brought together 400 participants around activities mainly intended for children aged 7 to 11: samba, film screenings, storytelling, concerts by local artists, and neighborhood tours.
2 December 2025 – Cinegol Together
Gol de Letra organized a screening of the documentary XXI – The Sport of Solutions, directed by David Blough, awarded at Cannes in 2024 and already viewed by more than 12 million people. The film highlights the role of sport as a tool for social transformation. Entirely new to Brazil, the screening brought together the community and local stakeholders as part of the 2025 France-Brazil Season and Dia de Doar (Giving Day).
12 February 2025 – Sarau
A symbolic event held for over 15 years in Caju, the Sarau marks the annual culmination of the Dois Toques sports program. Designed as a festive, immersive, and educational day, the 2025 edition engaged children and teenagers aged 6 to 15 around the theme of Carnival, used as a cultural and pedagogical approach. A screening of XXI – The Sport of Solutions also took place in the gymnasium and was open to the entire community. The 18th edition of the Gol de Letrinhas book was launched, alongside numerous artistic, cultural, and sports activities celebrating the memory of the local territory.
Through this program, Gol de Letra demonstrates the concrete impact of culture and sports as levers for inclusion, expression, and social cohesion.
