Kick-off of the women’s football team in Nice

Sport

On 30 May, we kicked off the project to create a senior women’s sports section at Cavigal de Nice by organising an initial information meeting. Supported by the INDIGO Foundation and run by employees from Streeteo’s Nice teams, the project includes the creation of a team within the club, with recruitment based on awareness-raising initiatives in the city’s priority neighbourhoods. With its 13 sections, 3,000 members and network of alumni, the club continues to maintain the “Cavigal spirit” instilled by its leaders. Around thirty people came to find out more about the project at the meeting, and around twenty women are ready to sign up for the 2024 season.

The aim is to enable women’s football teams to continue beyond the age of 18, the age at which they most often must stop due to a lack of opportunities and resources.

The project will take place in two phases. The first phase will take place during the winter holidays, probably indoors, where players will be able to start training. Soon afterwards, tournaments will be organised, bringing together players with or without a current club licence.

The launch of this project is extremely positive and is already bringing people together; thanks to this new section, more women will be able to take part in this sport, whatever their level, and acquire the technical skills to perhaps go on to become professionals. This initiative will have a significant impact on women living in Nice’s inner suburbs and will help to advance gender equality in sport.
